Safe Sitter Class

Safe Sitter® is a medically accurate, hands-on class that teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. Safe Sitters learn what to do when a child chokes, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills (diapering, feeding, etc.), how to entertain children, and ways to keep children safe.

All program fees include the Safe Sitter® training materials as well as a meal and/or snacks for participants.

Instructed by OSF Mission Partners: Darby Mix and Alexis Murphy.

Designed for students in grades 4–6 (ages 9–12), this 90-minute introductory course prepares participants to stay home alone safely for short periods. Students learn safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and how to handle emergencies such as severe weather or power outages. The class introduces the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart to help assess common injuries.

CPR and childcare skills are not included, as the focus is on foundational safety knowledge.
