Safe Sitter Class
Ages: 10+ Years Old (Students must be in at least 5th Grade during the 2025/26 school year)
Safe Sitter® is a medically accurate, hands-on class that teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. Safe Sitters learn what to do when a child chokes, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills (diapering, feeding, etc.), how to entertain children, and ways to keep children safe.
All program fees include the Safe Sitter® training materials as well as a meal and/or snacks for participants.
Safe Sitter Essentials

Instructed by OSF Mission Partners: Darby Mix and Alexis Murphy.
Designed for students in grades 5–8 (ages 10–15), this 5-hour comprehensive, one-day course prepares participants to stay safe when home alone, caring for siblings, or babysitting. Students learn emergency and safety skills, childcare basics such as developmental stages, behavior management, and diapering, along with introductory first aid and business skills like screening jobs and setting wages. Each participant receives a student handbook and a certificate of completion.
